Capital Lighting & Supply (CLS),  of Baltimore  donated more than $2,100.00 to The Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE) located in Burtonsville, MD. The donation, made possible by proceeds from a 50/50 drawing held at the awards dinner which followed the company's annual golf tournament in September.

The lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing, CLS Outside Salesman Vernon Morsberger, graciously donated his $1,085.00 portion of the winnings to CASE, as well. The donation,  delivered in person to the CASE office, just prior to National Adoption Month in November, was received by CASE Founder Mike Dugan and CASE Board Member Frank Watkins.

"We are extremely grateful to Capital Lighting & Supply for including CASE among the groups benefiting from its 2007 Golf Tournament. Their generosity enables CASE to support this region's foster and adopted children and families with much needed counseling and educational services," said executive director Debbie Riley. "We were especially touched by the kindness of Mr. Morsberger for donating his personal share of the winnings to our organization.”

C.A.S.E. Launches Ground-Breaking Research Study on Post-Adoption Services with National Implications

Comparison group families from all U.S. states encouraged to participate. Find out it you fit the profile for this study . Compensation for qualifying families!

The Center for Adoption Support and Education is pleased to announce it is launching a ground-breaking research project this fall. Funded by Jockey International, The Dave Thomas Foundation and the Montgomery County Council in Maryland , the project will measure the impact that adoption-competent post-adoption services have on adopted children and their families.

The goal of C.A.S.E.'s research is to provide the child welfare field at large an evidence-based model that can help support the expansion of adoption-competent services in our region, as well as be replicated on a national scale.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding needed to sustain an effective service delivery model, adoption-competent mental health and support services are not readily or consistently available to adoptive families in the United States .

C.A.S.E. has partnered with Dr. Douglas Klayman, President of Social Dynamics, LLC to design and implement the evaluation study. Using an 18-month longitudinal collection process, the project will assess the clinical efficacy of C.A.S.E.'s Therapeutic Adoption Program and its impact on the social and emotional well-being of adopted children and their families.

We need your help to recruit families to participate in this important study.

Adoptive families, adoption agencies and child welfare professionals are encouraged to help C.A.S.E. recruit families to participate in this study. To ensure accuracy, it is imperative that we reach adoptive families whose children are between  5 and 18 years old who will not be receiving services at C.A.S.E.

Volunteer families will receive compensation (gift cards)  for their in-person/telephone participation. Private adoption agency partners and child welfare agencies will receive preliminary and final reports, including reports on the children/families they serve(d). Call Valerie Kunsman at 301-476-8525 for details.

Eligibility criteria:
Comparison group families can be from anywhere in the U.S. provided they :

  1. Have an adopted child between the ages of  5 -18 years of age who,
  2. Has either a diagnosed behavioral disorder or exhibits challenging behaviors as identified by parents, other caregivers, teachers and/or mental health professionals,  and,
  3. the adoption process has been completed.

If  you fit this profile, contact AdoptStudy@socialdynamicsllc.com for more information about  how to participate as  a comparison group family. Or you may call Valerie Kunsman at 301-476-8525.
