Sarah McLachlan
was born on January 28th, 1968 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. McLachlan is a musician, songwriter, and performer that has recorded several songs that have received international acclaim, including “Building a Mystery” and “Hold On.” Her success continued when she won two Grammy Awards in 1998 for “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” and “Best Pop Instrumental Performance” with songs from her album Surfacing. In 1996, she was inspired to create an all-female touring festival, Lillith Fair, that continues to perform today with other recognizable names such as Paula Cole, Tracy Chapman, Indigo Girls, and Natalie Merchant. A large portion of the proceeds from the Lilith Tour and the Lilith CDs are donated to organizations that benefit abused women and persons with AIDS. On a personal note, McLachlan married her drummer, Ashwin Sood, in a 1997 private ceremony. It is expected that she will continue to write songs and perform with great success well into the Millenium!
